According to Kura Archives Yamada Shoka was born in 1868 in Kyoto. He was the pupil of famous Kyoto landscape and kachoga artist Suzuki Shonen (1849-18). His landscape in my collection show that Shoka was a very talented follower of his master. And the painting in the Kura Archives indicates he was a very well at kachoga as well.
