Consol Swiss pocket watch, imported by G. Stockwell and retailed by Edwards of Glasgow, 1917. George Stockwell was a well-known British importer of clocks, watches and jewellery from late 19th to early 20th century. This watch bears the name of retailer Edwards of Glasgow on enamel the dial. The case is 0.925 k solid silver and hallmarked London import and G S monogram for G Stockwell with the date letter b for 1917. Open face or lepine calibre case has engine turning pattern and shield and garter motifs on the reverse and a silver dust cap also covers the movement. The movement is typical of the period and has breguet hairspring, screwed balance wheel, swiss club tooth lever escapement with 15 jewels for precision. The movement is engraved with the name / brand CONSOL possibly a trade mark for George Stockwell. It has been cleaned and serviced on 12th, March, 2007 and keeps excellent time. |

Saat İskoçya'da Glasgow kentinde Edwards firması tarafından satılmıştır, kadranda biraz silinmiş olmakla beraber firmanın adı ve Glasgow kenti yazılıdır. Saat ünlü İngiliz saat ve mücevher ithalatçısı George Stockwell tarafından İsviçre'de yaptırılıp B.Britanya'ya ithal edilmiştir, G S inisiyalleri ve Londra gümüş ithal damgası ile 1917 yılını veren "b" tarih harfi durumu berrak bir şekilde açıklamaktadır. G. Stockwell 1907-1918 yılları arasında saat ticaretiyle uğraşmıştır.Kasa: Açık yüzlü (open face) 0.925 ayar İsviçre gümüşündendir, Londra ithalat damgası, .925 ayar mührü, tarih harfi "b" 1917 yılını gösterir. Arka kapakta balıksırtı motiflerinin ortasında boş bir kalkan motifinden oluşan kartuş ve etrafında İngiliz dizbağı nişanı motifi bezemeleri işlenmiştir, bu da saatin İngiliz pazarında satılmak üzere tasarlandığını gösterir. İç kapak ta g ü m ü ş tür. Saatin camı, organik cam kalitesinde sentetik bir camdır. Saatin çapı tacı hariç 4.9 cm'dir. Seri numaraları tam ve doğrudur. Menteşeleri sağlamdır. I.Dünya Savaşı yıllarında üretilmiştir.Mekanizma: 15 taşlı, altın kaplama Breguet pandüllü, tacından kurulan ve ayarlanan bir mekanizmaya sahiptir. Kurma kolunda hafif bir boşluk vardır, ancak güvenle kullanılmaya kesinlikle uygundur. Eşapmanı çapa eşapman (anchor) denilen kaliteli bir eşapmandır. Balans çarkı çivilidir. Mekanizma üzerinde tahminen G. Stockwell'in kendi markası olan Consol adı yazmaktadır. |

American Waltham Watch Company pocket watch. Model 1894, 12 size. Case: 10K gold-filled case by John C. Dueber, held a controlling interest in the Hampden Watch co. while it was still in Springfield, MA. It was moved to Canton, OH in 1888 and, the Dueber Watch Case Manufacturing Co. joined it there, starting operations in July, 1889. A gladiator figure is carved inside the back case. Movement: 15 jewels. Breguet hair spring, anchor escapement with micrometric regulator. Its serials are 12237784 for 1903. Dial: It is a contract/private label watch for Hyman,Berg&Co,Chicago. This company was established by Harry S. Hyman and Morris H. Berg in Chicago, and was in business between 1880s-1930s and successor to Wendell&Hyman. For reference please click here. |

Loomes listed this maker as George Green and Sons, working in Bridgnorth around 1860-70 on the page 94. But this paper is far more older than a material in terms of decoration, fonts and quality, made around 1860s. I estimate it was made in the 1840s or less before. Revers of the watch maker's paper. Watch maker's paper 1833. Willam May , goldsmith, watch maker etc, but the city he worked is illegible. According to Brian Loomes' Watch Makers and Clock Makers of the World, on the 157th page, there are two possible William May, the one worked at Portadown circa 1800-1859 and the other worked at Brighton and Loomes saw a watch made by this maker in 1839.
